We are excited to be taking part again in one of Joburg’s premier art shows – the Turbine Art Fair. The 2023 event is being hosted at its new home Hyde Park Corner from 27 – 30 July, offering art lovers convenient access to some of the country’s leading talent.

A full schedule of events is planned for the four days of the fair, giving visitors every reason to spend time browsing, meeting artists and adding to their collections. And you could win free entry to the fair by sharing your thoughts on the meaning of home, tradition and  culture.

Join us in celebrating the unique works of exciting young artist, Fumani Walter Maluleke, who is the sole focus of the Asisebenze Art Atelier booth at this year’s fair.

His exhibition’s title, Mundzuku U Hlawulekile, a rough translation of “No time like the future”, is a riff on the well-known adage “No time like the present”, which means doing something today instead of putting it off until later.

On arriving in Johannesburg Maluleke, his wife and his child all slept on grass thatch mats as was customary back home. Today, that lingers in his work in which he references the sanctuary of home. His underlying message is clear: “… we almost never find the opportunity to touch nature here in the city. That part of us that was so common is now for a few of us”.

Maluleke will be presenting 15 – 20 works in the Asisebenze Art Atelier booth at the Turbine Art Fair 2023. Asisebenze made an impression in its inaugural participation at the Turbine Art Fair in 2022.

You can win tickets to attend the 2023 Turbine Art Fair by sharing what home, tradition and culture mean to you. Submit your thoughts on Instagram or Facebook before 27 July 2023.
