This May, Asisebenze Art Atelier brings a powerful new exhibition – Beyond the mirror – to the iconic Latitudes Art Fair.

Seruwu’s paintings capture the quiet, unseen moments that shape identity—children burdened by responsibility, or the weight of a silent embrace. With expressive brushwork and charged palettes, he explores resilience, longing, and love. His work reveals identity as a shared journey, shaped by experience, emotion, and connection.

Siphamandla Ex

Ex explores memory, fashion, and intergenerational identity through vivid portraiture. With a palette of orange, white, black, and teal, his figures—dressed in vintage silhouettes—echo personal histories shaped by tradition and self-expression. Though not literal self-portraits, they reflect cultural legacies passed down through clothing, posture, and presence, reminding us that identity is not solitary, but woven through memory and community.

Steve Maphoso

Maphoso’s textured portraits invite viewers to look beyond the mirror—toward the layered stories held within each face. Set against whimsical floral backdrops, his work blends expressive realism and symbolism to explore identity as both personal and relational. Through solemn expressions and bold contrasts, Maphoso reflects on strength, vulnerability, and the emotional truths that shape who we are.
